I really like this "stone". The 300 side makes quick work if you have a tool that is a little off angle. The 1000 side provides a nice initial polish that I enhance with finer grit stones. The 300 side doubles as a flattning plate for my other stones as well.

The heart of a sharpening system. Not only used for initial sharpening of the tool, but also for dressing the stones used after this.

It's wide and great for sharpening plane blades. There is no notable high spot and provide decent finish.

a few strokes on the 350 grit and then I turn it over to 1000. My turning tools are a lot sharper and it’s easier to touch them up on this than it was to put them back on my sharpening jig

With this and a sharpening guide, I finally got may smoothing plane iron back to flat and nice and sharp. I got the 3” wide one so my widest blade could be run straight up and down with extra room. much nicer experience than the thin whetstone I was using .This thing is solid.I also got their special blue liquid, it helps.Much more pleasant to plane wood and not have to fight clogs every few strokes. Beyond that.. the shaving are great!

Trend notes in their documentation that initially the diamonds are rough, but that they will break down to where they should be. The consequences are that the diamonds are breaking off into the stones as they are flattened, and that scratches the blades. Also, if one is using a honing guide on the stones with embedded diamonds from the flattening plate, the diamonds find their way into the wheel bearings, freezing the bearings and even if unfrozen, grinding the bearings so they never run smoothly again unless the wheel is replaced.Trend should manufacture their kit so that it's ready out of the box, rather than putting that on their customers, ruining their tools.
