The reason for the 3 stars is because of the way it mounts to the equipment it is intended to be used with. Every other USB to RS232 that I have seen and have in use has screws on both sided to allow you to secure it to the equipment with the screws. This one does not have screws to hold it in place once it is plugged in. The USB to RS232 electronics work fine I hope that the small pins of the DB-9 connector (blue case) will be enough to hold the connector in place, This should have been brought to the attention of the customer prior to ordering. Knowing that, I would have never ordered it.

requires microsoft programs no longer available for either my Vista or XP Operating systems (on two separate PCs) - I had to buy an older PC with a built in serial comm port instead

I'm working with different type of equipment via RS232 interfaces everyday. Find an appropriate driver for specific OS was always a problem for me before I bought this one. It just works everywhere on Windows, Mac OS and Linux as plug and play. I'm completely satisfied.

I am using some old Windows XP software that connects to a GE Vibration Monitor for configuration. You have to use RS232 and my new Laptop does not have an RS232 Port. This plugs right into the USB port which I do have and then gives a DB9 Pin plug to hook your cable to.It worked great and configuration was so easy a caveman could do it.. Dont forget to get some DB9 adapter plugs to make your cable connection.

Arrived in time. Works perfectly. Easy to use. Was having problems with a different brand. Problems have disappeared with this brand. Recommended to a friend with the same problem.

I have several USB to RS232 adapters, but occasionally they would cause Win 7 to Blue Screen. This adapter not only works faster, I no longer get the BSOD! I highly recommend this product.
