i have one of these. i filled it with 4x 2TB NVME drives. works fine on that front. all 4 drives detect just fine. in the description and documentation, says you can soft-raid your drives. nope. not in any dimension or plane of existence can you do that. just says "Operation not supported" other than that it works as advertised. typical throughput i see is about 1.8-2.1gb/s transfer speeds which is dead on for the port speed. i even bought another one of these enclosures to make sure it is not faulty hardware for the raid function. nope. does the same thing. i filled that one up with 2TB drives as well.

LISTEN All you need is the ASMedia 246x controller, buy whatever form factor the manufacturers provide, especially on AMD usb4.0

Product gets very hot to the point of concern about longivity. Decided not to take a chance and bought 2 heatsinks and sandwich it between them which helps a lot. I didn't feel confident about 1 heatsink based on how hot this thing gets so i used 2(lol).This slightly undermines my need to have a very small cute enclosure.🤨 At the time of purchase there was nothing about it being a frequently returned item and i wish that alert had existed at the time.Gave it 3 stars for the heat issue and suppected if the enclusure was built with an heatsink style enclusure with fins instead of solid metal it would have dissipated the heat properly.

Works great, is fast. What I don't like is that the fan is external and needs a 2nd USB power supply

I love the simplistic tool free construction of this external SSD enclosure. The enclosure has a built in fan and it is thermostatically controlled by the board in the enclosure. No need to worry, as the device should sense when to turn on or off the fan. Very silent in operation so far. Speeds are very good, rated to 40Gbps and with the current Nvme memory I have installed, I am seeing speeds as fast as, if not faster than the installed memory in my M4 Mac Mini. The all aluminum enclosure should dissipate the heat quite well, but a note: the heat sink and silicone heat pad do not seem to make contact with the external case, so not sure how well the heat will be transferred for dissipation. So far, I am very pleased with the look and performatnce of this enclosure, and it sits very nicely on my Mac Mini.

Very happy with this NVME Enclosure. Depending on what NVME drive is being used I have seen Read and Write speeds past 7000mbs. Internal fan is quiet I can not hear it. Drive does end making some heat after a long file transfer but performance does not decrease. I do wish the cable it came with was longer and the only issue I had was the aluminum shim it came with was useless when trying to cool the NVME and needs some thermal paste between the lid and metal shim otherwise heat transfer is poor. plus adding thermal paste not only helps drastically with cooling the drive it also keeps the shim stuck to cover.I just ended up using a zip tie to hold a small 40mm fan on the front to cool drive. Soldered up a USB cable to power the fan with 5 volts off PC

I've just put an EVO 970 Plus 1TB into this unit and it's working fine. Used it as a recorder drive with an ATEM Extreme ISO and worked perfectly. Write speeds on my M1 Max (thunderbolt 4) were just under 1400 and read at just over 3000 as tested with AJA.Just remember that the fan makes just enough noise that if you're near a condenser mic, it'll pick it up. Fortunately the fan speed is very consistent so if you're using audio clean up software like Izopte, it'll get filtered.Only thing I would have preferred is that the cable end be right angled to make it sit better and out of the way.

This 40Gbps enclosure is the cheapest available in Amazon right now. It comes with everything you need in the box including a good quality USB4 cable. I read a previous review saying the cable is bad and so I ordered one which turned out to be the bad one.The enclosure is solidly built and completely tool less. I like the locking mechanism and how the cover seamlessly locks with a satisfying click and sits flush into place.I installed a 4TB Crucial P3 Plus with a slim copper heatsink. There is no fan. The SSD is passively cooled. You'd think it will get very hot but not at all. My other 10Gbps enclosures get way hotter than this.Overall a very good enclosure and I'm glad I didn't get the one with the built-in fan.

Satisfied with the device and speed. I purchased this to run VM's (mainly Windows 11) on my Mac Mini M4. The speeds are more than acceptable. I ran the first screenshot within my Windows 11 VM and maybe VMware is caching as seems a bit high but ran Amorphous (similar to CrystalDiskMark) on the Mac and got more reasonable results with my Samsung 980 1TB drive. The fan is a little noisy as others have stated, with an otherwise silent system, I can hear the fan but with any sort of music/noise going, can't hear it. I will most likely get a longer cable and move under my desk so can't hear it anymore. For the cost, would highly recommend.

Bought this about 5 months ago for a 2TB Kingston KC3000 drive (Read: 7000MB/s and Write 6000MB/s)Enclosure worked up until yesterday afternoon. I've used it a total of 5 or 6 times total (powered on less than 24 hours). Now it just flashes the activity light but the drive no longer shows up in windows.Confirmed it was neither an issue with the NVME drive nor the cable, tested on 3 different desktop PC's and 2 laptops (2024 Asus ROG G14). Also tried 2 different NVMe drives I had on hand but none of the 3 work. Have 8 different USB 4 cables as well, no change. Only other potential point of failure is the enclosure itself.I did reach out to the company to enquire about a warranty claim (the warranty details aren't listed on the product page as of the time of this review. If / when I hear back from this company I will update my review accordingly.

Works great on my M1 Mac Mini and a 4TB Lexar NM790 SSD, get read and write that is pretty much as fast as you can expect for thunderbolt. I only got one thermal pad with this, the listing and manual seems to imply I should have some metal strip and another thermal pad, but didn't have those. Instead I had a spare very thick thermal pad which I put on top to touch the top of the case, and put the included one below the SSD. The SSD I have uses less power and generates less heat than normal so even with one thermal pad it would probably have run fine. Copied 2TB to it already with no issues. The case itself is neat thick metal and opens without any tools just by pulling and still has a snug fit when putting it on, so it won't come off by accident. It uses this annoying rubber screw to secure the SSD, and 2-3 spares were included. Comes with a very short thunderbolt cable, and I replaced it with a longer one.
