I got these bells and whistles for doing exactly what they claim, alerting wildlife that I am in their area so that we don't actually come face to face with each other. The bells are surprising loud for their small size. The whistles work well too. The whistles feel cheap and you get the initial impression that they work because of how small and lightweight they are. They do indeed work. They take a little effort to make an affective sound. You can't blow gently on these and produce and audible sound. You have to use a forceful breath to make these work. The bells, other other hand work very well. The ball inside the bell that causes it to jingle, moves freely and produces sound easily with the slightest movement. So if you strap this to your backpack when hiking, they will jingle all the way ;) letting the wildlife know that you are coming. The bright colors of these bells and whistles make them easy to find if you do put them inside you purse, backpack or fanny pack. The bells have a sturdy strap that allows for attaching them to outside pockets, on your jacket or whatever exterior option works best for you. The bells are made from a heavier, sturdier metal than the whistles are made from. The biggest advantage I see to way the whistles are constructed is the fact that they are super lightweight and portable. Since they do in fact work, I really can't complain about the type of metal they used to construct the whistles. I just personally expected them to be heftier than what they are and of the same quality metal as the bells. Considering how many pieces you get in this listing, i do feel that it is a good value for the price, especially with all the good points about this product. I rate this at 5 stars for the value and ease of use. I would recommend these for outdoor adventures where the wildlife needs to get notified of your location so that they won't come calling.

These bells and whistles are indeed loud enough to scare a bear! I doubt I will ever encounter one in my lifetime but the raucous will surely scare away every possum raccoon, and squirrel within 100 feet!

I like that you can fold strap to make it stop ringing
