Works great right out of the box. Just pick your desired snap components, assemble them, the use the tool to crimp the snap and hold in place. Easy to use, but be sure to select the correct base because there is one for the top snap and a different base for the bottom snap.

I ordered this snap fastener tool to put some snaps onto a tarp that covers my firewood to keep the wind from blowing it off. I tested this tool on a small piece of sailboat sail vinyl.The tool portion of the kit includes the crimping tool and 3 changeable dies that slip onto the tool. Die A is for punching a hole in the fabric where you plan to put your snap, Die B is for crimping the button cap and button socket together with the fabric sandwiched between them, and Die C is for crimping the button stud and eyelet together with the fabric sandwiched between them.Using Die A, I punched a hole in the fabric for the button cap/socket pieces, then punched a hole for the button stud/eyelet pieces. Next, I used Die B to crimp the button cap/socket pieces together, then Die C to crimp the button stud/eyelet pieces together. At each step, I squeezed the plier handles together firmly as far as they would go, but the crimping action was not deep enough to crimp them tightly against the fabric and resulted in loose crimps leaving the button cap and button stud to freely rotate.I’m sure the crimp would be snugger if I installed the snaps on a thicker fabric. I also discovered that if I used a small washer between the die head and the magnetic plier it fits onto, this would allow the crimper head to squish down a tiny bit farther resulting in a tighter fit on the fabric.Overall, this tool does a decent job of installing snaps onto fabric if the fabric is thick enough, or even on thinner fabric with the use of a spacer washer. The assortment of button caps and sockets provides enough for a small project.

The tool is nicely made of heavy steel.The instructions clearly show the various parts and anvils, numbering them and illustrating how to use each anvil with the appropriate part, and the proper sequence of operations.Produces quality and professional looking installation.Comes with a decent amount of the necessary parts to install multiple snaps.The negatives consist of there needing to be just a bit more squeeze room to fully make the rivet up; as it is the rubber on the handles, sort of prevents a complete swaging of the cap and snap, you really have to squeeze hard to mushroom the cap stem that last little bit.It would be nice if it were offered with black, olive green, and tan hardware as well for sportsman, and camping enthusiasts.THis still is a great tool that does a nice job

I had a belt to fix and my boat seat was missing a snap so I got this kit to fix them. It worked great for both. I am glad it came with instructions because the pieces look similar and I wasn't sure which die to use with them but the directions walk you through everything. I didn't actually need the punch since I was doing repairs only but I did test it on some scrap faux leather and it actually worked better than my leather punch. It looked dull though so I was quite surprised how well it worked.The only thing that is missing with this in my opinion is a storage case. The snaps come in an organizer box but the crimpers and directions are just loose. I ended up storing it in the box it came in which won't live forever but works for now.

This is a decent little tool, it does what it’s advertised to do. We wanted this for making curtains for RVs. There just isn’t anything that makes say this is great or bad. It makes holes in the fabric, had a little issue with a black curtain but a little strong hand it got the job done. It is a little easier than the hammer style tool. For the price I would have like to see a few more of the snaps included. Most at this price point give about 30 snaps and some get towards 100 snaps included. So that would be a little better. Gave 4 stars because its good, it works.

This is a review for "BILLION GOLD Snap Fastener Tool, Heavy Duty Snap Fastener Kit with 20 Sets Snap Buttons, Canvas Repair Kit for Repairing Boat Covers, Marine Canvas, Sewing, Tarp, Fabric"I am impressed. I had previously tried a lesser expensive type of snap installation tool that did not work for beans. I saw this one and ordered it. This is one case where you get what you pay for.The snap pieces come in a small divided plastic box with a label on the top of the box indicating what letter piece is in that section. The directions are about 95% clear/easy to follow and also have useful demonstrative pictures.If you read before you start plowing into assembling a snap, you will do just fine. I did my first test on a shop rag. That was so I could test the tool and also the snap parts, but it also illuminated for me that the first step in the snap process is actually the pretty side of the snap, which indicated to me I want to put the snap pieces in a different location for future/non-tester projects.I am impressed all around and can definitely recommend this product.
