Startech has not disappointed so far, does exactly what it's specs says. No connectivity issues, no firmware issues, it's all good.

Nothing but praise, here. I only have tested it using m.2 2280 SATA 1TB version. I'll update this review, if I use something different.--- The Praise ---I will gladly pay higher price for anything StarTech related as they make high quality products! Before I buy anything, from any place on Amazon, I make sure to do my research on the internet first. I found that StarTech, based on real reviews, makes high quality, trustworthy products. So, after buying my first product from them, I kept buying from them for everything I need. They might be higher cost than everyone else on the market, but your also getting the best high quality product too! Save yourself time and money; just buy the best from StarTech.

I download a lot of video. For past year, save them to SSD's. Edit them. Archive them to HDD.A recent urge of need for speed resulted in buying a couple of M.2 NVMe's from WD.Seriously, a huge improvement over SATA SSD's.But all the docking stations I tried so far are unstable--works in progress.Must be something different with the way NVMe's work.I'm trying StarTech now because over the years, it's the ONLY company that actually makes reliable docking stations. I didn't know Startech made this product until I went looking after all the others failed. If you read the writeups carefully, you'll see the same complaints across products.About this enclosure. It's hot.All purchased so far are open docking bays either with fans or my trusty little 5" USB fan blowing on the SSD. All idled around 31C. Maxed out under load at 35C.The same drive I've used for past 2 weeks idles in the Startech at 50C. Runs up to 65C under load.I was taught 'heat kills'. That's why computer rooms are kept cold. Like around 10-15C.I see some enclosure insist you use a heat dissipater. Startech doesn't give you one. Just holes on each side that obviously, should be left exposed for air to pass through. Passive heat control.Notice in the photo that the M2. NVMe Kamrui uses in their mini PC runs around the same temp, 24/7. Same kind of passive heat dissipation.Somewhere on Google I see that these drives average temps between 50C and 70C. Suggest heat under 70C is acceptable.I just cant forget 'heat kills'.This morning I removed the two cover plate screws and carefully slid the assembly out of the enclosure.Set it down in front of my fan.Getting 32C resting... Maxing at low 40's at full load under constant writing load.If you're concerned with heat and you can use your drive in a safe place without the enclosure, this is a good workaround. As of this morning, I've pushed through over 3TB of files on and off, working in between. So far, no disconnects. Solid performance. StarTech wins again.Update 7-20-24Connectivity stable, like usual external drives. Resting temp is 7C above room temp. (32C) Maximum activity 17C above room temp (42C).Recommend anyone that purchases an external NVMe docking bay or enclosure return it after the 1st random disconnect. There is one little 'off' thing with the Startech enclosure. In W11 Pro, the USB disconnect icon does not appear unless there is another USB device connected. When I need to remove it, I go to create/format drive partitions and disconnect the drive. Then you can see the USB disconnect icon that shows the enclosure--not the drive. But it still works.

Within 10 minutes of connecting this to my PC and using it for storage, the case became so hot I couldn't even pick it up. I was seriously afraid that the heat would destroy my brand new Samsung 980 Pro 2TB SSD! No heat sink (which would have made the case hotter, but would have drawn heat away from the drive more efficiently. Returning to Amazon.

This little device works exactly as described and gives great productivity. I purchased this to help with an NVME migration on a laptop. This laptop is an older model with a USB c port and 1 NVME port. I plugged the new 2TB NVME into this device and the laptop via the gen 1 USB c port using the provided cable. I installed the crucial version of Acronis. The new drive was readily detected and had great performance via this adapter. The entire 256GB Samsung Evo drive, which only had just under 2gb free, copied to the new P5 2TB crucial in less than 15 minutes. I was pleasantly surprised at the performance of this device being plugged into a gen1 USB C port and then also being adapted via this product. I expected at least an hour of copy time and, as I mentioned, only took 15 minutes. All said and done this job only took an hour after opening and then verifying the transfer after drive drive replacement. Customer was very happy with only an hours charge when I quoted a possibility of 4 hours for this. I will be keeping and using this item for as long as I can. Hopefully I'll be able to replace it if needed when the time comes. Thank you Startech for always making well built and high quality products that always get the job done.

Bought this for extra nvme card when I updated my laptop. The StarTech case is very well made. I considered only 4 stars because when it came, the cover was VERY hard to remove with the supplied T-driver...too small. The cover screws were torqued down very tight. After finding the correct driver in my tool kit, I was able to get the 4 screws out and reassemble with my spare nvme card.Windows 10 recognized the unit as a USB drive and I formatted it. As a test, I copied 2 large video files to it, a total of 50G. It took about 4 min to transfer. The case got warm but nvme drives do get warm so all was good. I would buy another if I ever get another spare nvme card.

I received my Star Tech device today and put it together in 20 minutes. When I plugged it into the computer and clicked on the external D: drive, I was asked for the 48 digit Bitlock key. I got so anxious that I could not think. It took me 4 more hours to find that key in my online Microsoft account. Then I had to watch another Youtube video to find my files on the hard drive that I had removed from the old computer (I did that myself also.) When I found them, the Star Tech device only took 2 minutes to transfer my files to the new computer. This gadget is worth every penny.
