For the price this is a great product. I have been able to back up files and my wife's craft items with out having to pull a usb hard drive in and out. You also have access to your files outside the home. However, you may need some help if you have no clue how networking works. I had to purchase a switch and extra patch cables to plug it directly to my router which is where it needs to go. Your computer/laptop will not see it directly like an external or internal hard drive. There are two ways to access it; internet or the WD My Discovery application which you download. The My Discovery application will set it to look like a regular drive so that you can create a folder structure or store your files.

The initial installation went without a hitch. Worked for four days and then failed. The box is gone so cannot return it. FAQs etc. no help. Every suggestion re: cabling, modem settings, booting, rebooting, resetting, reinstalling, upgrading software and assorted magic spells failed to help. No reply to online support request. A rather expensive boat anchor. A shame but, no I do not recommend this product in any way, shape or form.

I purchased the My Cloud Home drive on Amazon. After receiving and installing it, I performed multiple backups of my MacBook using Time Machine. This worked fine. However, the drive failed about a week later and would not turn on. I called Western Digital (WD) technical support. After some diagnosis the agent said WD would replace the drive under warranty. The problem was I did not want to return the drive, as it now has confidential personal and business/client information stored on it (I am self-employed). After putting me on hold the agent said I would need to respond to an email he would send and provide an explanation why I could not return the faulty drive.I did not receive the email and called WD back the next day. This agent also said I need to provide an explanation, and did send the email. I replied to the email as requested. After no word from WD for 3 days I called them again. This time I was told I need to provide the explanation on my company letterhead. So, again submitted the response on letterhead.Again, no word from WD after 3 days and called back again. This time I am told I need to also submit a photo of the drive and a proof of purchase. I asked why they did not request this the first time and why WD never emailed or got back to me requesting the information, instead waiting for me to contact them. Agent had no response, only apologized.I contacted Amazon and explained the situation and Amazon agent said I would receive a full refund, without need to return the drive. I also received a follow up email from Amazon confirming this resolution. It is now 15 days since I sent the information to WD that was requested. Still no word from them. The moral of the story is, I will not purchase another Western Digital product. On the other hand, Amazon customer service was great.

I am SO TIRED of having to delete stuff from my online storage sites just because they ran out of free space. Installing the WD network drive was easy. Love the increased storage capacity. :) I dropped my first one, accidentally bricking it ... so, be careful with these ... they are unbelievably fragile :(

Unlike the previous NAS drives this one was easy to install and works without glitches. Though it lacks certain techie features of a NAS unit, this is simpler to operate and works flawlessly. After couple of years of use I see some serious limitations with this unit and decided to move on to a NAS drive. The backup service, that runs natively to back up the contents of the drive, performs only mirroring with archaic restore capabilities.

When Apple discontinued the Time Capsule, I needed a solution that would allow my wife to use Time Machine to back up her MacBook Pro wireless when connected to my home network. I went with the WD 3TB My Cloud Home Personal Cloud Storage and I am very happy. There are added benefits to running my own cloud server for media, phtos and backup with remote access through the MyCloud App. I would buy this product again.

This is a great solution for our huge multi-thousands photo collection. When we get back from one of our many adventures, we can upload our photos from our phones using MyCloud software, then manage them from my laptop using Windows Explorer. I was a database expert and this system is perfect for simple, unfettered photo management. You will need a way to back your photos up onto something else. I keep a copy of what is on the My Cloud on my PC which has a terabyte hard drive. Not sure what I will do when I exceed that, but that's weeks away. :-)

DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT IF YOU HAVE MAC'S and want to back up multiple devices over WIFI. I have three Mac's, one desktop connected by Ethernet, the other two (laptops) are on the network via WiFi. The desktop works great but the laptops don't work....most of the time. The laptops connect to the drive and I can see/copy/move files. That part is easy. The problem becomes more noticeable some time after the first Time Machine back up. The connection between Time Machine and the WD drive is lost. Files can be moved via the internet connection-no problem there- and files can be backed up, but no Time Machine connectivity.I worked for days (literally, a total of 48hrs +) to try to get a solid connection between Time Machine and the WD drive via WiFi. I've checked the FAQ's on the WD site, Apple's site, and most other stuff I can fine on the 'net.I uninstalled the WD software and re-installed-still no good. All the while, moving files to/from the WD drive is solid, but Time Machine still doesn't recognize the drive. When it does, it's short lived. The WD connectivity software is solid once you get used to it but definitely not user friendly. The configuration/settings are minimal. If I could give this product a rating less than zero, I would. Definitely doesn't work as expected.I'm winding up with a bad feeling because I did not listen to the other negative reviews.I am going to see about getting my money back from Amazon.

This is the cloud storage solution I've been looking for! Wonderfully simple instructions to get up and running. The mobile app could use some work (ie. better integration with other apps on my phone (Word, PDF Viewer, etc.) but the desktop app is great, allowing me to easily share files from my home computer with my work computer. Great product that's worth a 5-star review.
