This pool thermometer is super cute. I originally ordered it because my prior two thermometers were soft plastic flamingo floaters with a clear tube containing the thermometer submerged underneath. The flamingos faded in the sun in one summer and the thermometers came loose after awhile. So, I had high hopes that this shark thermometer would avoid both of those issues. It doesn't have the same kind of clear tube, instead the thermometer is integrated into a hard plastic body. I set it into my pool, head up, it floated away and I went inside. A couple of hours later, I looked out and realized that I couldn't see the shark floating around anymore. I went outside and found the poor shark lying on the bottom of my pool! That's when I looked at the product description and realized that it's a sinking thermometer. It's designed not to float. It does come with a string, so if you have a pool ladder or handrail to attach it to, this should work perfectly. Unfortunately, my pool doesn't have either of those things, so now this shark lives at the bottom of my pool, forever 6 feet under, and isn't useful to me at all. That's my fault though, and I still think this is a cute thermometer with a better design, if you have the right set up for it.

I got this to replace a floating thermometer. The weighted head pulls the thermometer down into the water for more accurate readings. I found the included lanyard long enough to rest in about the middle of the overall depth when tied to the ladder. The large numbers are easy to read and so far it seems accurate. My kids love the shark design, it's super cute.

The first thing I noticed was that the quality felt really cheap. There were a couple of chips on the shark head that definitely didn’t seem intentional. We bought this to use not in a regular pool, but for a cold plunge pool we recently set up, and thought it would be a fun, functional addition.Unfortunately, once we placed it in the water, you could barely read the temperature. It just wasn’t clear or accurate. Overall, not impressed. It looks cute, but performance-wise, it was very average at best.

I was in the market for a new pool thermometer. Seems most of them are the kind that just float around in the water with chlorine tabs in them. Anyone with a pool knows, those are the WORST because all they do is end up right in the filter - blocking it, and its annoying. I was happy to find this cute little shark. It adds some personality to my pool area and it has a CORD. YAY! Win/win. Love it.

The Shark thermometer is easy to read. It sinks and gets a better reading that the floaters.

I ordered this $10 XY-YQ shark thermometer (Amazon ASIN B0DYHHBZ6F) because I wanted to see if the temperature is appreciably different at depth than six inches below the surface, and for that, I needed a second thermometer. However, what's DIFFERENT about this pool thermometer is that it is designed to sink, so you MUST tie it to something as it lays flat when it hits the bottom but it will be upright if you hang it on the cord that is provided (which is the type they all use and which will only last about a year in the harsh chemicals of the pool - but cords are easy to replace). It's shaped like a shark, which, I guess is different too but that's meaningless. What's different is it sinks so it measures the temperature of the water at whatever level it's at, and, nice design, when you pull it up to the surface to read it, it keeps its own small thimble of water with it so the temperature doesn't' change in the interim.Since it's a red liquid bulb thermometer (most likely ethanol and red dye #2) you have to read it upright where this is where I kind of hate that the Centigrade system exists, because with any of these bulb thermometers, they put the scales side by side, but Fahrenheit between 60 and 90 is scrunched up when placed next to Centigrade from 15 to 35. So you can read the Centigrade scale easily in units of 1, but there are twenty units of Fahrenheit (roughly) for every 10 units of Centigrade which always makes reading in Fahrenheit miserable. (Actually, I just took a photo of the shark thermometer for you and between 20°C and 30°C is 17°F, my point being that by adding Centigrade to the shark thermometer, they ruined the Fahrenheit scale.)Moving on, most bulb thermometers are white whereas this is gray (see photo) so it's a little hard to see the thin red line, but you can read it if you have decent eyes. But what else is DIFFERENT about this thermometer is the glass is NOT fully encased so that you can ADJUST it if you need to. Why would you need to? Well, if you ask that question, you don't have any children because they tend to THROW the thermometer into the water, which, ask me how I know this... which will jostle the glass tube to the point that it moves an arbitrary number of degrees (or even falls off its glue, just rattling around in the plastic cage). With this thermometer, you can see the back so that you can ADJUST it if the glue comes loose. You'd have to be careful as it's not made to be adjusted, but I've had to cut the back off the box store enclosed thermometers to adjust them, so at least that will be much easier with this pool thermometer.Overall, this is a thermometer after all, where they all do the same thing, but this one has those two features which are different. I hope this review helps you make more informed decisions. Please see the closeup photos created to help you understand the differences.
