Why We Need GFCIs?

What is a GFCI?

A GFCI receptacle is different from conventional receptacles. In the event of a ground fault, a GFCI will trip and quickly stop the flow of electricity to prevent serious injury.

Definition of a ground fault:

Instead of following its normal safe path, electricity passes through a person's body to reach the ground. For example, a defective appliance can

cause a ground fault. A GFCI receptacle does not protect against circuit overloads, short circuits, or shocks. For example, you can still be shocked if you touch bare wires while standing on a non-conducting surface, such as a wood floor.

LINE vs. LOAD

LINE cable:

Delivers power from the service panel (breaker panel or fuse box) to the GFCI.

If there is only one cable entering the electrical box, it is the LINE cable. This cable should be connected to the GFCI's LINE terminals only.

LOAD cable:

Delivers power from the GFCI to another receptacle in the circuit. This cable should be connected to the GFCI's LOAD terminals only.

If you want a GFCI that has no outlets, this is a great bargain. I use them a lot in my products for protection and they have been flawless.

I bought this 20 A GFCI for my Jacuzzi and installed in November 2022. Since last few days, I am hearing a click click noise in the GFCI and despite resetting it, it still gave the noise. Today morning I notice the noise has got loud and steady and constant. The product is bad quality and defective. I am out of the return window so I guess I have no option but to absorb the cost. Definitely wont recommend to anyone.

I needed a new GFCI branch circuit. My distribution panel is old and did not include a compatible breaker. So I installed a plain breaker and this GFCI standalone unit. I then started to plug a few things into the branch circuit. Every time I turned on a printer the GFCI would trip. More investigate should it would trip but only if connected to the PC by USB. More tests should every thing would work fine on a different circuit with GFCI protection. So I replaced this cheapo with an Eaton unit and everything works great. I guess it goes to prove you should buy name brand safety equipment and not cheap out. Saves you money and your life in the long run.

Well constructed. Sturdy housing and strong terminals are wire in hole with screw clamp down on wire upon tightening screws. The very best method for a sure connection. Looks at least the same if not better quality than Leviton or Pass & Seymour. Nice strap and captive mounting screws. Will buy again. Highly recommended. I bought 3 and very happy with my purchase. Price is right compared to Home Depot and Lowes shafting.

Had a hard time finding one of these that had a blank front instead of switches, so I was stoked to find this one online . Easy to install.
