I bought 8 of these, 2 have failed within 3 months. Kidde has sent me replacements for free but I'm very skeptical that these will protect my family. If another one fails I'll be purchasing another brand. Very disappointing. ***UPDATE*** 3 have now failed… I have taken them all down and replaced with another brand. Can’t trust my family with these. KIDDE will not refund me and will only send replacements.

My old smoke alarm was chirping so I bought a 2-pack 10 year kiddie smoke and carbon monoxide alarm, however, when my handyman was installing them, he saw that the two units are different and one of them required batteries to be replaced every year! I spent money to hire a handyman since I can’t get up high to do the installation myself, now I have to replace them and ask the handyman to come back again! What a waste of money and time!

I installed these detectors at each end of the main hallway in my house just a few days before Thanksgiving and both worked just fine during some light cooking. Also no triggers from the home's furnace running the past few weeks. No complaints as far as installation goes either. The units that these replaced were a little larger in diameter, so some touch-up painting around the new mounting ring does need to be done at some point. Activating (turning on) the unit with a flathead screwdriver is very easy and straightforward, just turn the red lever on the back CLOCKWISE ONLY. One short beep means it's on and ready to mount on the wall.UPDATE: The detector went off when food in the oven got burned pretty badly (so it works!) but resetting the unit was easy: push button once to silence the alarm (AFTER ALL the smoke clears), then press again to test the alarm - one short beep - after which the LED goes back to green.

These replaced similar detectors that we installed 10 years ago. The batteries really do last 10 years. These new detectors were much easier to install.

After trying to save a few dollars and get the the knock off one that only lasted a YEAR. I bought these and am really happy. Sometimes it pays to go name brand, especially when it comes to my family’s safety. Never again will I go for off brand smoke detectors
