Worth the money for a Matter/WiFi smart door lock.I don’t have a Hub, just an old Amazon fire tablet and it works just fine. Downloaded the app and connected, created pins and off I was, seeing when the codes are used and notified when door opens and locks. If you have kids it comes in handy as it allows you to know all that info.Installation is not complicated, build quality is sturdy.Battery life is good, but you have to use name brand batteries for that, cheap type don’t last as long. The con: Not rechargeable or finger print enabled, no Bluetooth or Zigbee, Just WiFi.App is simple to setup and use.Worth the money since the app gives you internet access back to the lock and get status.Overall, matter was my sell point. I could have gone zigbee or just a cheap Chinese WiFi BT model. But this trumps them on reliability.

The Kwikset Halo Select Smart Lock deserves every bit of this 5 star review.Installation was straightforward. The Kwikset app provides a great guided setup with clear visuals. Even if you’re not handy, you’ll find it simple to remove your old lock and fit this one.Getting the Halo Select connected to my Wi-Fi was quick and easy. Once I paired it with the Kwikset app on my phone, I could lock and unlock my front door from anywhere. My favorite feature is the ability to create access codes for anyone. I am even able to schedule codes to only work at certain times for my for my dog walker. What really impressed me is that this lock is future-proofed with support for the new Matter smart home standard. Knowing that the Halo Select can adapt to new tech means I won’t need to replace it anytime soon. It works great with my Alexa and also appears to work with Google Home, Apple Home and SmartThings.Last but not least, I chose this lock over others is because of the brand. Kwikset has a strong reputation for making high quality locks. Paying a little more to be confident that I'm buying the best lock to protect my home and my family is well worth the price and this product is built to last.I’m extremely happy with this purchase and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a smart lock!

I bought my new home in December 2024 and wanted to have a smart lock that I could control with my Apple Homepod and iPhone. I had the Kwikset Premis in my old home and loved it, but it was no longer available. I opted to try the new Halo Select because it seemed to be the pseudo "successor" to the Premis, and I'm happy to say that it is. I installed it myself with no professional and no hassle at all, just some screwdrivers and time. The install took less than 30 minutes, but for someone new it'll take likely around 45 minutes to 1 hour. The instructions are easy to follow...just take your time, follow them, and you'll be okay. My favorite feature of the Halo Select is that it has Kwikset's re-key built in, so I was able to set all of my new handles and locks to match to one key. To me, the simplicity of Kwikset is unmatched and is the main reason I didn't go with another brand that was cheaper. After that, I just followed the directions in the app to set it up to my Homekit, which I think is the hardest part of the setup (but again, just follow the instructions and you'll be okay). Once everything was setup, I tested it out about 5 times and it worked every time. The product looks good, functions well, and opens/closes on command from my Homepod. I'll keep buying these Kwikset products in the future.

I have owned/installed 5 various kwikset smart and standard locks. They have always been the easiest and straightforward locks to install. This lock proved problematic. The issue was the exterior assembly turn-piece shaft shape did not match the interior assembly spindle. So my first problem was that the exterior shaft rotation was not correct (it did not fit smoothly but it did fit) - so once installed the interior latch could not engage the dead bolt. However, if the key was installed it did turn - but then i could not remove the key unless it was in the unlocked position. It took several tries to figure out my problem - which was that the exterior assembly shaft needed to be turned clockwise a few turns. However at this point, i could not reengage the shaft into the interior assembly, no matter how much i reoriented the latch mechanism. All of my other kwikset locks that i installed had the shaft shape perfectly aligned with the latch assemble - so this the assembly of the interior and exterior assemblies was never a problem. In fact the kwikset lock i was replacing had these shapes aligned perfectly.
