I initially thought this was great, but as we went it is very much a hassle. The parts on the base for mounting it, one side came broken but I still managed to use it. It's incredibly hard to clean it. The pump and the hose that connects to the system gets clogged all the time and hard to clean. The wheel doesn't really spin no matter how high the water level is.A positive is that the noise from the pump is minimal and although it's not a waterfall type affect(since the wheel doesn't move much) the water noise is still relaxing and not loud.

I looked at tons at different types of filter systems ... I really liked this one ...Set up filter everything was workin great ... got up nxt morning AND I had a FLOOD ... WOW what an absolute NIGHTMARE ! Aquarium was ALMOST empty ... otherwise I would have had DEAD fishies too ... Holy Crap !U r supposed to be able to setup filter system on outside or inside of aquarium ... obviously I had it on outside of aquarium ...BEWARE u might have a FLOOD of a NIGHTMARE !

The large one is really small although it is a great idea and it only fits rimless tanks. They do give you some free media and it comes with a bio wheel.

This is a really cool design which is why I bought it. It let's you try out different filter materials and everone gets to see how it works. With that said, it does take some work to make it function like an out of the box filter you'd buy at a pet store, which I think is part of the fun. I added extra sponges and white filter material and the water is clear in my 29 gallon. I plan on upgrading the pump to something more powerful so not concerned about that.4 stars because of the low power pump, and the outside walls could be a bit higher for overflow situations. Also, the container itself has a plug on the bottom of the first chamber to hook up the pump hose I'm guessing, so I'm hesitant to try to hang it on the outside of the aquarium as is.
