A combination of fire and carbon monoxide monitor, hardwired with a 10-year battery backup. The 10-year is based on usage of course and how often that battery is put in use, example; mine is hardwired at the moment however it is not utilizing that power because currently I'm having an issue with a circuit breaker that is not allowing power to get to certain areas of my house so right now I am relying solely on the battery and if I continue to use it in this manner the battery is not going to last 10 years. Circuit breaker issue is about to be fixed and when it is I will be able to rely on the hard wire power and know that the battery backup is there in case of any power outages. This has a voice / audible warning in multiple languages. It is extremely loud so when you go to test the unit after installing it protect your ears.It appears to be made of good material and functions as it should. Easy to install especially where others have been. It has a modern design and it is a good value for the money.

I had Kiddie Smoke/CO detectors in the common areas of my home and smoke detectors in all bedrooms with the 10 year battery backup. But too many false alarms. When my son took a hot shower and neglected to turn the fan on, the steam would set the combo detector that is 10' away in the hall off when he opened the door. And being interconnected, when one gets tripped, they all go off! After the several false alarms and disabling it, pressing the button did not turn the alarm off anymore. I threw it out beeeping away out to the end of my backyard into a snowdrift so I wouldn't hear it anymore. The cost of batteries today make the extra cost of a 10 year battery worth it. Knowing the cost of batteries will only go up ensures this will be acontinue to save even more as time goes on. So I looked for another and found this one that looked good. It was in my hands in two days. This detector seems well made, a bit heavier than the Kiddie. It installs the same as any sother AC interconected smoke detector, very easy. Getting onto the mounting ring took a bit of rotation to find the right spot to get on, but once found it locked in securely. The test worked. Its more than loud enough. Speaks two languages too.Its flame retardent too. Great, but not sure I need this as by the the time flames are licking at this unit outsode my bedroom door, I'll be long out. Maybe if the lithium batteries ignite it may be useful to keep teh fire size down?Best part is it passed my son's hot steamy shower test a few times now. Peace at last.

It was time to change my smoke/co detectors. I saw this one on Amazon and like the idea that you don't have to change the batteries cuz I hate when those things start beeping and saying low battery in the middle of the night. This is the second smoke/co detector of this brand that I purchased and it is the exact same model as the first one even though the listing price was a separate page and price. The detector is a little bigger than my Kidde detectors and it seems to be well made. I had one issue with installing it. Unlike other smoke/co detectors that I've installed, you can't just twist this onto the bracket from at any position when you place it on the bracket. The proper slots have to line up exactly with the matching brackets on the plate. I knew that would be an issue, blindly stabbing the detector onto the bracket and trying to get things to line up so I made a little red sharpie mark that I could use to line up and that made it easier to match up and twist on. There was another part of the mounting bracket that I was confused about so I just read the instructions...duh...There is a feature to twist the detector onto the bracket so it cannot be removed easily, tamper proof... an example of a rental or such. There's a little tab that has a scissors icon next to it and you have to basically break this little tab off so it is easy to remove if you ever have to remove it. I'm glad I realized that before I put it up and locked it on there. Other than the problem mentioned, this detector tested well and it works fine just hopefully I'll never have it sound off in a real emergency situation. I gave them four stars due to the problem with lining up the detector with the ceiling bracket that I mentioned.

PROS:- AC powered with battery backup- Wired interconnect- Plug in pigtail connector for easier installation- Addition of carbon monoxide detection functionCONS:- Interconnection requires existing traveler wire between unitsAs the primary cause of death in most fires is smoke inhalation, and often carbon monoxide, the inclusion of detection of both is a big plus for this unit. While I had no ready means of testing CO detection, it easily passed the smoke detection test I performed, and the silencing function also worked as expected. The original two AC powered smoke detectors in my home had no traveller wire between them to support interconnection, so despite the other installed unit supporting wired interconnect I was unable to take advantage of that feature. This unit measures approximately 6.25 inches in diameter across the base, while the housing itself is approximately 5.5 inches in diameter.Installation is made easier by a pigtail that can be wired in first, which then plugs into the unit. This avoids having to hold the unit up while completing wiring. The bilingual warnings are in English and French, rather than the English and Spanish one might expect for an item sold in the United States. The voice warnings are also at a considerably lower volume than the shrill alarm. Their primary usefulness is for distinguishing a alarm triggered by smoke from one triggered by carbon monoxide. The battery compartment screw is a less common head type, but given that the expected battery life is 10 years and it is recommended the unit itself be replace after 10 years, that is not a significant issue.
